Fast all weekend, Daniel Mogeda and Team 109 deserved more at Magny-Cours

Daniel Mogeda was in fine form once again for Team 109 as the FIM Supersport World Championship arrived at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours this past weekend for the series’ annual trip to France.

Sixth in Friday’s opening Free Practice, Daniel qualified a credible ninth in Superpole giving himself a shot of a good result in Race 1 on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday’s opening race was held in the rain and started well until Daniel was forced to take avoiding action due to another riders’ crash. Losing multiple seconds, he rejoined at the back of the field but never gave up and was able to fight back through the field, showing incredible skill and speed in difficult conditions. He finished eleventh at the flag, narrowly missing the top ten.

Sunday’ s second race saw Daniel involved in the battle for the lead in the early stages before he unfortunately had to retire with a technical issue.

Both Daniel and the team look forward with optimism to the next round at Motorland Aragon in three weeks’ time.

Daniel Mogeda:

“We started the weekend inside the top ten in Free Practice and then in Superpoole the team and I did another good job by finishing P9. Race 1 was going well but one rider crashed in front of me, and I lost nine seconds, and I was running in last position. I kept fighting and was able to recover to eleventh position which was good, and I was happy with the way I rode after the incident. In Sunday’s race I started quite well in the warm up, I was second and I started fourth for the race because of the lap time from race one. Things were going well but we had a technical problem, and I had to stop. This is racing, these things can happen. I am already focused on more and better in Aragon which is a home race for me.”

Paul Tobin – Team Principal:

“It was a positive start to the French round weekend with Daniel quick from the off in FP1. He did a great job in Superpole finishing ninth. The first race was wet, and we had a really good setting on the bike. Daniel made a good start but on the opening lap he got bumped at turn three which pushed him back into the pack. Unfortunately, at Turn 13 Loris Veneman crashed in front of him and he had to stop to avoid him. He lost close to ten seconds but recovered well to come from P29 to P11 and he posted the fourth fastest lap time. He was second in warm up on Sunday and was confident. He had podium pace all weekend and it’s unfortunate that in the restart the bike developed a technical issue, and he was forced to retire. He deserved more than he achieved but we move to Aragon, and we go again.”
